I am coming to Ireland in January, specifically to Castletown-Kilpatrick and am researching the ancestors of my Grandfather Thomas Weldon who was born in Castletown-Kilpatrick and emigrated to England in 1901.
I have found your site and have noted that in the Kell's Parish Archives you have the Register of Burials for St Patrick's Church 1881-1974. My Grandfather's brother James Weldon (b.1876 - d.1944) in Castletown-Kilpatrick. I dont know where James is buried but I think it can be possible that he is in St Patricks because there are also Catholic burials there. Can you tell me where these archives are?
I'm sure you can understand that the more I find out now the more I can find out when I get there, being a 70 year old it is going to be difficult for me anyway going from town to town. But I am full of enthusiam at finally being able to discover my dear Dad's roots.
Thanking you Ann Passeri (nee Weldon)

Dear Patricia and Martin,
Thank you very much for your reply to my posting. I have spoken to the genealogist at the Meath center and also an “Irish-American” genealogy expert in Chicago. From the former, I have learned that birth records from the early 1820s are not available. Both experts also tell me that the name “Arthur” was very unusual at that time. The expert in Chicago goes so far as to say that she doubts he was baptized with that name.
If true, that makes the search very problematic.
I guess all that we have to go on is if the names “Michael,” or “Arthur” have any incidence in and around Kells Parish, and/or if any memories exist of such a family in the area all those years ago. Thank you for responding to me Patricia and Martin. I appreciate it very much.
Sincerely,
Kevin B. McMahon

Dear All,
I am writing to you all asking if any of you know of family with the name of Rathbone or Rathborne who come from the Kells area. My great grandmother, Caroline Rathbone (or Rathborne) was born in Kells, Ireland. However I have asked the Parish Secretary if there is any record of her birth in the records and he has said there isn't.
I was hoping to track down a record of her birth in Kells, and also to find out information about her parents, and their marriage. They were all Catholic.
I'm wondering if anyone in the Parish knows of any Rathbone family in the area, and where I could find any further information about Caroline's background and her parents, as mentioned.
I would love to hear from you,
Sincerely,
Janice Langan
Melbourne, Australia.

Dear Martin,
I am completing a history for the family of William Michael Grimes, who was my dad's best friend. This history is mostly about his service as a submarine officer in the Pacific during WWII. However, we have discovered that his great grandfater, Arthur Grimes, listed "Co. Meath" as his birthplace when he enlisted in the 5th U.S. Artillery in 1861 (U.S. Civil War). His ancestors, and there are many, are unaware of his heroic service in the Army of the Potomac and also are unaware that Co. Meath is their ancestral home.
I looked at Griffith's Valuation for Co. Meath in 1855 and found the largest concentration of "Grimes" in Kells (there were 3). In Kells, I find a Michael Grimes living in Calliaghstown.
Arthur Grimes immigrated to Pennsylvania where he was married in 1853. His first son was named Michael Thomas, born in 1858. If the first born son was named after his grandfather, then that may indicate a match. I looked through all the other Grimes listed in Co. Meath in the 1855 Griffith's Valuation, but the man from Calliaghstown is the only one named Michael.
I read through several pages of your wonderful guestbook, which brings back so many people with such deep connections to your parish. I see some Grimes family members in the guestbook, which makes me wonder if this is in fact the home land of the Grimes family members who descended down the line through Arthur, the Civil War veteran who fought in all the great battles of his day, including Gettysburg.
I hope that parish records might somehow stretch that far back such that we could determine if this is the case.
It would be a great treasure for the Grimes family - widow and seven children of William Michael, the submarine sailor - if we could establish where in Meath it all began for them.
Sincerely yours,
Kevin B. McMahon

Hello, We are visiting Kells, Meath next month and would love to find information about the Martin family and the Smith family.
Elizabeth Martin was born in l872, and James was born in l859. They married in N.Y. Surely they have relatives we could visit with. It would mean so much to us if anyone has information on either of these two families. Thank you. ann collins

Hello, I have recently been made aware that the parish church of St.Colmcille in the town of Kells is part of your diocese. I have a request to make to you as in reality you are my last hope in finding my Irish roots. You see my family name was Kells and we originally came from the town of Kells. I know there are many with the same last name in the town. Inquiry: Looking for information on the Kells family from Kells, County Meath. My ancestor Earnest Kells originally came from this fine town. He immigrated to Canada in the early 1900's, specifically to Montreal Canada, where he lived out his days and had a family with his wife Emma.Any person who may think they are related, and/or knows that they had these Kells relatives in Montreal, please feel free to contact me at tanmills22@gmail.com . That we can share information and I can start making a family tree. Sincerly, Tanner Mills
