What a wonderful website that I happened upon. I have seen picture postcards of Kells, and a few monochrome photos, but nothing more recent than about 50 years ago. It was pleasant to see Kells in its present day form.
My father, Patrick Tully, graduated from the CBS, Kells and left for the U.S. in 1913 (1894-1963). His brother Farrell (1895-1984) also graduated from the CBS and left for a fine career in the military, serving with the Irish Guards and then the Leinster Regiment during and after WW I, eventually serving the National Army for 38 years and retiring as a Colonel in 1960, as the Asst. Judge Advocate General. Their two younger brothers, Nicholas and Thomas (twins b.1900), spent some time at Mountjoy as guests of the British, with Nick going on to the military with Farrell and having an appointment with the National Army for several years. Nick was a newspaper correspondent in Kells for many years, at least through 1984. It is my understanding that Nick and Tom remained in Kells until their deaths, but I am not certain of that. Tom’s health suffered greatly from the conditions at Mountjoy.
My grandparents, Nicholas Tully (1864-1935) and Norah Curran Tully (1861-1941), are buried in the New Cemetery (now St. Colmcille’s Cemetery).
I wonder about my great grandparents, Farrel Tully and Mary Nevin Tully. Were they parishioners at a former St. Colmcille’s that was razed and replaced with a new church in 1910? And where might they be buried? Is there an “Old Cemetery Newspaper articles I have read indicate that this Tully family resided in Kells from the 17th century or before, but trying to get information from my home in the U.S. has been very difficult.
Any information regarding my family ties and family history would be gratefully received. Possibly I have relatives remaining in Kells from my great-uncle Philip Tully (d. 1933), or his sisters, Margaret Tully Murphy (1854-1930) and Catherine Tully Grimes (d. c1934). I would be interested in contacting them. I can be reached at tullyjet@hotmail.com. I am retired and live in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, an agricultural town having a population of less than 4,000, just a few families larger than the present Kells.

Hello,
I just remembered the wonderful time I had when I stayed with the Deignan family in Kells. So when I tried Google I came across your website which is great. Let me use your guestbook to say a quick hello to Karen, her siblings and her parents. And best regards to everybody in and around your parish. Eva

Still tracing family tree, have some great stories about Kells. we found a letter sent from Maggie Reilly nee Tormay living on Carrick street around 1920's to her brother John who emigrated to pennsylvania around 1892. In the letter she talks about the old days before their father died in and around 1889/90.

Hi Martin,
Just looking through your wonderful photo gallery (spotted my mum and in-laws). Great site. Thanks to yourself, Fr. John and Gerry for all your help with our wedding last year.

Hi great to be able to get the news from Kells on the parish website while I'm travelling in Asia. The photos from Christmas look terrific. Hope everybody's keeping well back home, looking forward to checking in on the website again soon.

I have been trying to track down some form of documentation that proved that my Mother [Ann Bernadette Madigan] was Irish. Unfortunately, there was no record of her birth having been registered. However, the Parish Office was able to help. Martin was extremely helpful, providing a Baptismal Certificate and some details of her family. I would be interested to learn more if any one else remembers her or her family. Please leave details with Martin (hopefully, you will be happy with this arrangement), who I will contact periodically.
